Jacqueline Dealtry, Support Advisor, York NYBEP Ltd Hob Moor School March 21st YORK schoolchildren have enjoyed a week of learning about different cultures.Children from the Federation of Hob Moor Oaks and Hob Moor Community Primary took part in a variety of activities as part of an initiative to combat racial discrimination. As well as taking part in the activiries, childen pupils dressed up in Indian clothing Debbie Cousins, head of school, said: “The children are learning about different cultures and how people are different but similar. It has been a fabulous week and it has been very interesting to see how their understanding has developed throughout the week.” Testimonial Just a quick message to say thanks for coming along to Hob Moor to help promote Anti- Racism. Talk on Indian culture, children wearing Indian clothes and jewellery and demonstration of coconut burfi(sweet) which children will be presenting their Mums on Mothers day. The reception staff, teaching asssistants, teachers and obviously the children all commented on how nice it was to see you again and asked when you were coming back! (Between November 2012- Spring 2013 when we do 'Around the World' topic next time) What a good day we all had with you and the children have made many references to things that you taught them. They now have an understanding of life in India. Thank You! The coconut barfi cut up well for the Mothering Sunday present and looked very pretty with all the different shades in the gift box. Thank you very much for fitting in so well with our demands - making an Indian dish with 50 children so that all have something that they can take home as a gift one week later, and learn about India at the same time! You did it! Around 20 people attended.Enjoyed hearing the goodness of spices and tasting food made from exotic and unfamiliar spices.
